Steam Members Past and Present Selected in the 2008 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft

The Cincinnati Steam is proud to announce that there has been four players with ties to the Steam that were drafted this past week in the 2008 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.   

In the 6th round, Josh Harrison out of Princeton High School and the University of Cincinnati, was the 191st selection overall by the Chicago Cubs.  Josh played for the Steam in their inaugural 2006 season and was named the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League’s Co-Top Position Prospect Player of the Year, along with 1st team All League Third Baseman.  Harrison appeared in the Cape Cod League in the summer of 2007. 

In the 11th round, Charlie Leesman, left handed pitcher out of Elder High School and Xavier University, was the 330th selection overall by the Chicago White Sox.  Charlie pitched the last two summers for the Steam and earned an All Star Nomination in 2007 as well as a pitcher of the week honor.  This is the second time Charlie has been drafted.  He was drafted out of high school by the Minnesota Twins in the 40th round. 

In the 38th round, Tommy Nurre, right handed hitting 1st Baseman out of St. Xavier High School and Miami University, was the 1147th selection overall by the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Tommy played for the Steam in 2007 and was selected to the All Star Team and was selected 2nd Team All League hitting .363, good for 2nd overall on the Steam behind League Most Valuable Player Jake Oester. 

In the 7th round, Dan Osterbrock, left handed pitcher out of Colerain High School and the University of Cincinnati, was the 216th selection overall by the Minnesota Twins.  Dan signed with the Steam for the inaugural 2006 season but due to a fatigued arm from the spring decided to rest during the summer.
