Steam Extend Winning Streak

After tallying up 40 runs along the course of their four-game winning streak, the Steam took a while to get the bats going in Friday’s game against the Delaware Cows.  They had what they needed, though, avenging last year’s season-ending loss with an 8-3 win to improve their record to 5-2. The Steam have put together five straight wins now.

Tommy Nurre (Miami U./St. Xavier HS) started things early, with two doubles in his first two at-bats, the first of which scored the tying run for the Steam in the bottom of the first. After two runs in the second gave the Steam a 3-1 lead, the Cows capitalized on a rough inning for Steam pitching, tying the game at three. In the bottom of the fifth, Zach Hurley gave the Steam the lead with a two-run homer to deep right. After three unearned insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th, Jordan Conley (Xavier/Hamilton HS) closed out the victory, putting the Steam in a first place tie with the Stark County Terriers.

Up next for the Steam is a double-header tomorrow against the Lake Erie Monarchs. The first pitch will be at 2:05 and it will be Champion’s Grille Day at the ballpark.
