Cincinnati Splits With Stark Co.
Western Hills, OH— On a day where the weather could have washed away a double header, the Steam win one of two games against the Stark County Terriers. Adverse conditions took a toll on scoring in the first game as the Steam won 1-0. Charlie Leesman (Xavier University) pitched a complete game one hit shutout for Cincinnati improving his record to 2-1 on the year. The lone run in the game came on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning with Tony Kennedy (The Ohio State University) sliding head first into home. He also led the Steam in hitting the first game going 2-2 with a double, single and a stolen base. In game two the sun came out for a while, bringing with it the scoring. The Steam held the advantage 3-1 going into the top of the sixth when a three run home run put Stark County up for good, with the eventual score being 5-4 in favor of the Terriers. Pat Berndsen (Thomas More College) going five innings and only allowing one run. Rick Betsch (Butler University) had a good second game going 3-4, and Jason Cisper (Miami Oh University) added two hits of his own while stealing a base and scoring a run. A strong crowd of around 365 stayed the entire day despite the weather to enjoy two great baseball games between the Steam and the Terriers. The next home game is Monday, June 25, when the Columbus All-Americans come to Western Hills High School to take on the Steam. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
