9th Inning Rally Extends Winning Streak to Eight
(Cincinnati, OH) -
The Steam found themselves in another pitcher’s battle Tuesday night
against the Columbus All-Americans, looking to stay atop GLSCL and
extend their seven-game winning streak.
Columbus pitcher Burny
Mitchem had the Steam batters baffled early, striking out ten and
allowing no runs in his six innings of work. The Columbus offense helped
Mitchem’s cause, with center fielder Chris Lewis knocking in two RBIs,
the only two runs of the game through seven innings.
The Steam finally
struck in the 7th, thanks to a walk, hit batter and an Adam
Eaton (Miami) single loaded the bases. After an out, Columbus pitcher
Kevin Mementowski hit Jon Edgington (Miami) to score the Steam’s first
run of the game. They then left 5 men on in the 7th and 8th,
trailing by one going into the final inning.
Edgington reached early
on a Columbus error in the 9th and moved to third on an Adam
Eaton single. Nate Fields grounded out to third, but knocked in
Edgington to knot it up. With only one down, the scene was set for GLSCL
Co-Player of the Week Brad Gschwind. He made the most of it, stepping to
the plate and hitting a walk-off single to left, scoring Adam Eaton to
keep the streak alive, making it 8 straight wins for the Steam.
The Steam, now 8-2,
will be on the road for the next two nights against the Anderson
Servants and the Lake Erie Monarchs before returning home on Friday
night against the Lima Locos. It will be Bahama Night at the ballpark,
with Steam sunglasses and beach balls being given away, as well as all
kids 12 & under dressed in Bahama theme being admitted free.
