Weather Fizzles Steam
Steam at AIA

Beat Writer: Tony Brumfield

With the Steam up 1-0 at the end of the 3rd inning, weather conditions started deteriorating which caused a lengthy lightening delay.  With this delay, starting pitcher Reece Asbury had to be removed from the game, which proved to be unfortunate for the Steam.  After an interesting bottom of the first inning in which the leadoff hitter doubled only to be thrown out at third trying to advance on an overthrow past the cutoff man, Asbury settled down and retired 9 of the 10 batters he faced for the game.

While for Xenia AIA starting pitcher Sam Campitella, he weathered the storm to go 7 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 2, walking 3 and being called for 2 balks.

Cincinnati started the scoring in the top of the first with a walk by Jason Cisper and a basehit by Jake Oester.  A balk by Campitella advanced runners to 2nd and 3rd.  A basehit by Brandon Besl scored Cisper but Oester was thrown out at the plate.

That was the beginning of the end for the scoring for Cincinnati, but not the threats.  Cincinnati left a total of 12 baserunners on base for the evening.  They left four on before the delay, were retired in order in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, then proceeded to strand 8 runners in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings.
