Steam Take Two From All-Americans
Chillicothe,
OH – The Cincinnati Steam
continued to play balanced baseball by getting good pitching, good
defense, timely hitting and
capitalizing on their opponents mistakes to raise their league leading
record to 15-4 on season and extending their current winning streak to
six games.
The Steam defeated the All Americans 7-4 in game 1 by scoring six runs
in the first two innings off of two Columbus errors. Joey O’Gara raised
his record to 2-0 on the season and Adam Eaton picked up his first save
of the season.
Cincinnati battled back from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Columbus 2-1
in game 2. The Steam scored one in the 6th and the game
winner in the 7th. Eric Braeckel (1-1) earned the victory in

Steam capitalize on
All American miscues to win Game 1
Cincinnati took an early 3-0 lead capitalizing on an error by the All
Americans 2nd baseman Tyler Rogers and a two out bases loaded
double by Billy O’Conner. Cincinnati put another three spot on the
board in the top of the 2nd, once again capitalizing off an
All American error. Jake Brown lead off the 2nd with a
walk. Jon Edgington reached on an error by left fielder Chris Roberts
who misplayed the fly ball. With runners on 1st and 2nd,
Nate Fields struck out and Brad Gschwind flied out to right to keep
runners at bay until Zach Hurley reached on a base hit to load the bases
for Tommy Nurre. Nurre drove in two runs with a base hit to left
driving in Jake Brown and Edgington. Brandon Besl doubled to score
Hurley to extend the lead to 6-0. All of these runs thru the first two
innings are unearned against Columbus starter Matt Shoemaker.
Cincinnati made it a 7-0 lead after plating one more off a basehit by
Brandon Besl scoring Tommy Nurre who lead off with a double in the 5th.
Columbus broke up the shutout in the 5th inning with three
consecutive basehits that scored one and the All Americans rally stalled
after that. The All Americans scored 3 in the bottom of the 6th
inning off of reliever Bryan Earley in his first outing for the Steam.
That is the way the game would finish as Adam Eaton came on in the 7th
to pick up his first save of the season.

Steam come from
behind to defeat All Americans 2-1
Cincinnati extended their winning streak to six games by coming from
behind to defeat Columbus 2-1. Starter Joel Ernst went five strong
innings in his first start of the season. Ernst was a little wild in
the bottom of the first allowing a lead off walk which eventually scored
to be his only blemish of the game. Eric Braeckel pitched the 6th
and 7th innings to record his first win of the summer to even
his record at 1-1.
Cincinnati tied the game in the 6th inning off a one out walk
by Zach Hurley, a stolen base, and a double by Brandon Besl plating
Hurley. The Steam scored the go ahead run in the top of the 7th
off reliever Tim Mowry. Jake Brown lead off with a single. Brown was
pinch run for by Jon Edgington. Edgington went to second on a sacrifice
bunt by Nate Fields and advanced to third on a ground out by Adam
Eaton. Brad Gschwind did it again to the All Americans by driving in
the game winning run, blooping a single to right scoring Edgington.
Gschwind beat the All Americans last week at home by driving in the game
winning run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
