Cincinnati Baffles Delaware
Delaware, OH –
The Cincinnati Steam extended their winning streak to seven games by
defeating the Delaware Cows 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Ohio Wesleyan
University. In addition the Steam bettered their league leading record
to 16-4 overall and are looking to improve upon its 13th
place national ranking after its second perfect week of the season.
Cincinnati built an
early 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. Jon Edgington
led off the game with a base hit up the middle. Edgington advanced all
the way to third on an errant pickoff throw to first by Cows starter
Jordan Nicholson. Edgington scored on an rbi single by Zach Hurley.
Hurley stole second and scored on an rbi base hit to left by Brandon
Besl. Besl went to third on a base hit to right by Billy O’Conner and
scored on a balk called against Nicholson. The Steam scored an
insurance run in the 7th inning with Jake Brown scoring from
third on a wild pitch. That was all the offense that the Steam would
need on this day.
Ryan Kruzska was
masterful on the mound for the Steam. Kruzska pitched seven strong
innings to raise his record to 2-1 on the season. Kruzska scattered
three hits, striking out eight, walking only one hitter. Steven Davis
came on to pitch a scoreless eighth and ninth inning.
Next up for the Steam
is a return home Monday night, against the Xenia Athletes in Action at
Western Hills High School at 7:05pm.
