Steam Bats Come Alive Bury Locos

The Cincinnati Steam got their revenge against the Lima Locos Friday night and in a big way taking a victory 13-0. The Steam bats came alive early and often to produce 19 hits and keep the Locos scoreless.

The Steam bats came alive in the bottom of the second inning. Billy O’Conner led off with a seeing-eye single into right field. Ryan Stausborger continued his stellar hitting of late doubling off the leftfield wall advancing O’Conner to third, putting two runners in scoring position with no outs. A Matt Bischoff wild pitch allowed O’Conner to score and move Strausborger to third. Steve Brown walked and a Jon Edgington single to left field brought in Strausborger, extending the lead to 2-0. Zach Hurley singled to load the bases for Tommy Nurre. Nurre was able to knock a single between the third baseman and shortstop to plate Brown and put the Steam ahead 3-0.

The Steam added some insurance in their next half inning. Brandon Besl hit a shot off the chain-link monster in right field and strolled into second with a stand-up double. Billy O’Conner advanced Besl to third and a Ryan Strausborger sacrifice fly brought in Besl extending the lead to 4.

The Steam added another run in the bottom of the fourth. Jon Edgington walked and stole second. Zach Hurley got his third hit of the night, a double to right field scoring Edgington from second, moving the Steam to a 5-0 lead.

More insurance came in the bottom of the seventh for the Steam. Brandon Besl started off the inning with a single up the middle. Billy O’Conner hit a rope back up the middle that the centerfielder could not handle, allowing Besl to get to third and O’Conner to second. Ryan Strausborger singled to right field bringing in Besl. A broken bat double by Steve Brown brought in O’Conner and Strausborger extending the lead to 8-0.

The Steam piled it on in the bottom of the eighth. After back-to-back singles by Brad Gschwind and Zach Hurley, Brandon Besl brought both of them in with a double to right-centerfield making the score 10-0. Not to be outdone, Ryan Strausborger knocked a double of his own down the third baseline plating Besl and making the lead 11-0. Jake Brown then hit a two run triple ending the scoring barrage at 13-0.
