Steam Sweep Monarchs

The Cincinnati Steam swept the Lake Erie Monarchs in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Bowling Green State University.  The Steam won game 1 3-1 off the powerful bats of Tommy Nurre and Brandon Besl who hit back to back home runs in the top of the second inning.

The Steam put a 5 spot on the board in the top of the 2nd of game two, again lead off by the surging bat of Tommy Nurre, his second of the day and third of the season, thus leading the Steam to a 7-3 victory over the Monarchs.

With the home runs, Cincinnati now has four individuals that have 3 home runs a piece, Zach Hurley, Ryan Strausborger, Tommy Nurre and Brandon Besl.  At present this leads the league.

In game one, Joey O'Gara pitched a complete game three hitter, not giving up a hit until the 5th inning, the victory raises his record to 4-0 on the season.

In game two, Steven Davis, relieved for starter Mike Korfhagen, went five innings giving up only three hits, raising his record to 4-0.

With the sweep the Steam's record goes to 23-6, matching the total number of victories the Steam had last season and Cincinnati still has 11 regular season games to play.
