Western Hills, Oh— With strong pitching and timely
hitting the Steam win a tight game 3-2 against the Grand
Lake Mariners. Chase Stewart (Miami (OH) Univ.) picked up
his first win of the year pitching one and third innings for
the Steam. Pitcher Kurt Smith (Ohio Univ.) also pitched a
solid one and a third innings in relief.
Tony Kennedy (The Ohio
State Univ.) led the hitting attack going 3-4 with an
RBI. Great defensive plays were supplied by Steve Brown
(Xavier Univ.) and Zach Hurley (The Ohio State Univ.) who
made a leaping catch and threw out a runner at the plate,
respectively.
With the win,
Cincinnati improves its record to 20-14 on the year and
Grand Lake drops to 21-13. The Steam are on the road next
with a doubleheader against the Anderson Servants. The next,
and final, home game for the Steam will be held Saturday,
July 28 when the Xenia Athletes in Action come to town. It’s
Fan Appreciation night at the ballpark, and will be the
final time in a Steam uniform for some players. First pitch
will be at 7:05 pm.
