NKU pitching teammate Nathan Jones was also drafted. He was selected in the fifth round by the Chicago White Sox after a solid junior season on the mound, posting a 2.88 ERA in 56 innings. Opposing hitters held a slim .185 batting average against the right-hander, a low-water mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Jones left June 14 for Bristol, Va. to play for the White Sox rookie class team.

"I'm very excited and I'm pumped about getting drafted," he said. "I can't wait to continue my professional career. As long as I'm playing somewhere, that's all that matters to me."

Jones was following the draft on the Internet and was excited to see his name, and he can't wait to test his skills at the next level.

"My strength is my speed on the fastball," he said. "I just have to concentrate more on getting the first strike over and go from there."

Asalon, who ended his seventh season at NKU, will have a lot to replace on the mound next year, counting his draftees and GLVC Pitcher of the Year Matt Marksbury, who is currently with the Florence Freedom.

"I'm sorry to see them go as juniors, but they're both great kids," Asalon said. "Nate has been here three straight years and gets better every time out. He's always had a great arm, and it's neat to see a guy like that work even harder to get better. Josh has matured as a person and I'm so happy for both of them.
